About The Milkwood Collection

The Milkwood Collection is a group of carefully selected lagoon-side properties in Knysna, South Africa, and one of the Garden Route’s most beloved holiday destinations. Nestled beneath leafy Milkwood trees and along the tidal edge of the Knysna Lagoon, our homes and chalets offer a warm and relaxed escape into nature. The Knysna Lagoon is technically an estuary, due to the water’s flow and depth, but is widely referred to as a lagoon.

What began decades ago as a small cluster of timber chalets has grown into a distinctive collection of self-catering accommodation, with options for every kind of traveller. From romantic lagoon-view stays to spacious family villas, each property reflects a deep connection to its surroundings and a long tradition of South African hospitality.

A Place to Slow Down

Located just a short stroll from the iconic Knysna Heads, the two sandstone cliffs that mark the entrance to the lagoon, our properties are ideally placed for both adventure and relaxation. Whether you’re here for the view, the water, or the quiet rhythm of life on the Garden Route, the lagoon is always nearby. Most of our properties offer direct beach access, with calm waters perfect for kids and endless opportunities for paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply watching the tide change.

Many of our homes offer beautiful views of the Knysna Lagoon, whether from elevated positions or right at the water’s edge, providing a peaceful setting to relax and take in the surroundings. The combination of forest, water, and coastal scenery makes Knysna a truly year-round destination.

A Collection of Unique Stays

• Under Milkwood is our original resort, home to 16 timber chalets tucked between the trees, each with its own deck and BBQ area.
• Number Eleven is a five-star villa designed for groups and families, with an infinity pool, garden, and exceptional views.
• Horizon offers classic comfort and generous space in a well-appointed family home within walking distance from the lagoon.
• Paquita sits right at the water’s edge, a welcoming three-bedroom cottage with uninterrupted views and a large deck for outdoor dining.
• Milkwood Bay, our fifth property, is not currently open to the public, but may be available for select bookings by direct enquiry.

Each property includes thoughtful extras, such as Le Creuset cookware, complimentary kayaks and paddleboards, daily housekeeping, and the option to pre-order groceries before arrival. We also offer babysitting, laundry services, and airport transfers on request.
