Plettenberg Bay Country Club

Set in a private nature reserve, the highly-rated, 18-hole golf course is a popular tourist destination. Populated mainly with indigenous flora and fauna, with no intrusive houses or traffic noise, the natural beauty of the course has been carefully retained. Wildlife include monkeys, bird life like the Knysna Loerie and woodpeckers, as well as the occasional deer.

Easy to walk, the park-like course offers an excellent playing surface and has two main inclines that can be viewed from the veranda. Sculptured by Ronald Fream and David Dale of GolfPlan USA, the Pezula Championship Course covers 254 hectares on the Knysna clifftops. Fancourt’s golf courses were designed by a team spearheaded by Gary Player and the estate’s owner, Dr Hasso Plattner. All three of its courses are ranked among Golf Digest’s top 20 courses in the country. The Links is currently No. 1 and the Montagu and Outeniqua golf courses are both ranked in the Top 20 in South Africa.

Featuring an undulating, windswept terrain and dune-style landscape, The Links has hosted some of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, including the Presidents Cup, the SA Open and the Volvo Golf Champions European Tour. Membership is by invitation only.

The tree-lined Montagu course covers large tracts of varying terrain on rolling land and has developed into one of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts in the country.

Ideally situated between the Indian Ocean and the Outeniqua Mountains, the 18-hole championship golf course is the first Ernie Els Signature course in South Africa. Located in George, the Sally Little signature golf course, designed by Danie Obermeyer, is a perfect blend of design, scenery and temperate weather. The course is female and family friendly, but also a challenging golf experience, catering for higher handicaps and competitive players alike.

Facilities at Kingswood include golf lessons from a resident PGA professional and a fleet of electric golf carts equipped with GPS. Nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Outeniqua mountains, George Golf Club offers unparalleled natural beauty and is designed to challenge any golfer. One of the oldest in the country, this course comes highly recommended and is in peak condition. With views of the exquisite Outeniqua Mountains from every hole, the beautifully manicured, 18-hole course has hosted many top S.A.G.A. Tournaments as well as the SA Amateur Championships.

Visitors are welcome daily, with the exception of Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, which are reserved for members and their guests. Bookings for golf are essential.
