Knysna Literary Festival<\/strong>

Offering a diverse and inspiring programme, the festival is fast becoming a must-attend with bookworms and lovers of all things literary. The event caters for everyone and touches on matters such as current affairs and politics, history, adventure, conservation, cuisine and storytelling. All best-selling authors are either local or have close ties to South Africa and have been selected not only for their literary talents but also for their skills in entertaining and delighting audiences with readings, conversations, debates and workshops.<\/p>\n

REMAX Coastal Knysna Heads Marathon<\/strong>

The routes have been carefully chosen to allow you to enjoy your qualifier and set you up for a good time as the highest point is only 30m above sea level. Fast and scenic does not always go together but here it does. Take a tour of Knysna that hugs the water for all but 2.4 km of the entire route. Late entries will still be accepted on race day at registration with a R20 late entry fee. Registration takes place at Remax Coastal on Thesen Island, Knysna on race day 8 March. Registration starts at 5am.<\/p>\n

Knysna Timber Festival<\/strong>

Taking place in the town where South Africa\u2019s timber industry first took root, the Knysna Timber Festival showcases local timber and woodworking materials, machinery, manufacturers, products, services and industry innovations. Knysna’s renowned cabinet making, woodturning and wood carving skills are on display. This year, the festival will include more entertainment with additional events encompassing Timber Sports, log sawing skills exhibitions, physical endurance and strength demos, live music shows and more. A special emphasis will be placed on family entertainment and historical items of interest from Knysna\u2019s timber-related past.<\/p>\n

Sedgefield’s Slow Festival (Postponed: Save The Date… fingers crossed. 24th to 27th September)<\/strong>

Slow Festival is all about having fun the old-fashioned way. Garden Route Airshow (postponed to 26th of September 2020)<\/strong>

Airshows are enjoyed by people of all ages, and the Garden Route Airshow will be no exception. For the first time in 25 years, the skies above George will be filled with the sound of high-performance aircraft and display teams from around the country. The show is being held to generate funding for the assistance of fire fighting in the Southern Cape.<\/p>\n

Knysna Motor Show (Cancelled)<\/strong>

Organised annually by the Garden Route Motor Club, the event showcases selected Classic and Vintage cars with its main purpose being to raise money for local charities. Participants, from all over the country, are personally invited to ensure a show with a difference. The show is completed with entertainment for the children, gourmet food stalls and a beer garden – all set in a relaxed country style atmosphere in the heart of the Garden Route.<\/p>\n

The weekend kicks off with the Fan Fest including the Classic Car Display and Parade in Hedge Street, and from there on in it is non-stop entertainment for the rest of the weekend.<\/p>\n

The festival will offer a programme of unique events for sport lovers, families and adventurers, with plenty of activities spread over ten days. There will be no shortage of fun, and a chance to experience one of the most beautiful, scenic areas in the country. The festival offers something for everyone – from running, cycling and adventure racing to wine tastings, cooking competitions, food and wine pairings, and inflatable fun for the kids.<\/p>\n

Sporting events include the Knysna Cycle Tour MTB (June 27th), The Knysna Cycle Tour Road Race (June 28th), The Knysna Forest Marathon (July 4th), and The Houtkapper Trail Run (July 5th).<\/p>\n

Food and wine events include Flavours of Knysna (1st of July) and the Knysna Wine Festival (3rd of July).<\/p>\n

All in celebration of His Majesty Haile-I Selassie-I’s Earthday (Birthday) and Emancipation Day.<\/p>\n

Carols by Candlelight – Knysna Waterfront<\/strong>

Entry by donation to Knysna-Sedgefield Hospice. Attendees are requested to bring a gift, which Father Christmas, who always makes an appearance, can collect and distribute to the needy children of Knysna. Candles and song sheets are provided, and the families gather around the gazebo where, accompanied by a choir and band, they sing all the familiar songs of Christmas. The highlight of the evening is the lighting of the memory candles. People can buy memory candles during the two weeks preceding the event and on the evening for this purpose.<\/p>\n
