If you’ve been watching South Africa’s news during this past week, you would have learnt that our beautiful town has been ravaged by disastrous fires of tremendous magnitude.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the 7th of June, more than 10 000 residents were evacuated from their homes. Most were able to return the next day but many had lost everything.<\/p>\n
We are so grateful that The Milkwood Collection properties were not evacuated and we can report that the chalets and the villas are all fine. Many neighbourhoods, including the Knysna Heads, have generally been untouched by the blaze. Our amazing location is still as beautiful and peaceful as it was.<\/p>\n
Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to all those affected by the devastating fires in the region.<\/p>\n
So many of our past guests have been contacting us to see if we were okay. Thank you to everyone for all your concern. Words cannot describe our appreciation for all your kind messages. Your support means the world to us.<\/p>\n
During this difficult time, it has been inspiring to see communities and businesses working together to help those in desperate need.<\/p>\n
In case you were wondering, it is safe to visit Knysna.<\/p>\n
The town is recovering and has resumed normal business activities. A holiday in Knysna will be as good now as ever.<\/p>\n The latest reports from our tourism board confirm that the indigenous Knysna forest and animals, such as the Knysna elephant, leopards, and baboons had survived. Popular picnic areas at Jubilee Creek and Diepwalle are open and unaffected by the fires. Almost all of our tourist activities are fully operational.<\/p>\n Although the Featherbed Nature Reserve, across the lagoon from us, suffered severe damage, their restaurants and the boat cruises on the John Benn, Paddle Cruiser and Heads Explorer Catamaran are still running. The restaurants and shops at the Knysna Waterfront had not been affected and the popular animal sanctuaries between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay are all operating as usual. Our world-famous golf courses are also open.<\/p>\n The Oyster Festival and the Momentum Knysna Forest Marathon will be going ahead as planned. Our town is looking forward to a great event!<\/p>\n The Milkwood Collection properties are nestled amongst leafy vegetation and indigenous Milkwood trees, with direct access to a glorious beach.
